CCC warns Government to prepare UK for at least 2C warming within just 25 years

Only a few years ago, a 2C average temperature increase by 2050 was considered the 'maximum' acceptable scenario in order to avoid significant effects from global warming. According to the UK's Climate Change Committee (CCC), 2C is now a likely 'minimum' event and it warns that a potentially catastrophic 4C increase could occur by the end of the century.

This has prompted the CCC to urge the UK Government to re-calibrate and apply more rigour to national climate adaptation plans to ensure the UK is prepared for the impacts of significant climate change on our economy, national infrastructure, built environment, our food and energy security and the health and well-being of our population.

The CCC remains critical of successive UK Government adaptation plans, stating that they are not sufficiently robust and continue to be "piecemeal and disjointed."
